Logic Gate Clock #4

THIS IS AN OLD POST. THE FINAL UPDATE AVAILABLE HERE.

This is a quick update.

I just added a power supply circuit for my digital logic clock
It works perfectly
XD

I decided to use a 10k ohm pot to control the voltage supplied to the digital clock
to include capability to adjust clock speed of the system.

Circuit Diagram:

Here is a video showing how everything works now.
Oh and I just decided to use cardboard box for enclosure
because I don't have a shop at home
sigh...

Piezo Buzzer PIC

I didn't get much done, but it makes "siren" like sound right now...
Still looking for enclosure for my digital clock :)
Did get some new drills and etc.
Tomorrow, I will probably go check lee's :D

anyways I am not sure if this is bad or not,
but I directly hooked up my buzzer across one of PIC's output (PWM) and ground.

I will have to research a bit more to get frequencies for musical notes
and I think I will get a music playing from tomorrow.

Gotta sleep today. Tomorrow I gotta watch soccer with Nomi <3

Logic Gate Clock #3

The circuitry for this project is complete!!!

The only thing left to do is making the chassis
:D
I have uploaded the final version of schematic, simulation, and datasheets:
Final version of document
So please do check out.

My final design looks like this:

Additional Info:

Voltage Level: 3.92V

Low Power Consumption

LEDs:
Clear Blue (lower seconds) | Clear Green (higher seconds) | Red (lower minute) |
Yellow (higher minute) | Clear Red (hour) | White (AM/PM)

Minute is incremented by one when the button is pressed.

Anyways,
this is how they look.

This happens :D

Button Mashing Gameeee!!!!

Mario is on the starting line

Mario is moving in mach speed XD

YAY~~~ Mario has reached the GOAL!!!
but he has hidden himself in his shoes...
cause he's sadddd
no more track for him to run :(

okok the following video shows the gameplay :D

Logic Gate Clock #2

THIS IS AN OLD POST. THE FINAL UPDATE AVAILABLE HERE.

I fixed a few mistakes from my first circuit design.

Also,
this new version should be easier to wire
:D

Project Update
I am almost done except for the LEDs and Chassis.
I also have to make some wiring corrections
So guess I will just have to wait for my desoldering pump to arrive
sigh

Anyways
here are few pictures of my prototype board so far.

Rockman on LCD

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO LCD DRIVER POSTING

Just got Mega man to display on LCD
:D

From this...
 To this!!!!

I am using a program called MicroElectronika's GLCD Font Creator.
It is a neat program which you can simply export your drawings for C programming use.
Unfortunately people using CCS C Compiler will need to modify the array it produces before use.

Sorry about the quality guys

The reason why I divided my Rock man into 4 squares is
because my PIC 16F876a does not have enough RAMs to create big arrays.

PIC LCD Sprites

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO LCD DRIVER POSTING

Found a very easy way to make sprites for LCD
:D

Breathalyzer #1

THE FINAL VERSION POSTING OF THIS PROJECT IS AVAILABLE

This is the first posting for my new project - breathalyzer.
I just wanted something to play around with when my friends and I go out for drinks.

I wrote a simple program for PIC 16F876a
to test my alcohol sensor.
It just displays an ADC reading of my alcohol sensor to my LCD.
Seems the alcohol transducer is fluctuates a lot
Well it was a cheap sensor after all.

Anyway,
check the source code

The following videos show the results from this test.

Simple Drawing Game

I have already lost interest in game programming
after working on this for about 5 hours

Before criticizing my code
Please keep in mind that I do not specialize in
Comp. Eng or Comp. Sci.

KS0108 Graphical LCD Module for PIC

I have finished written a LCD driver for PIC 16F876a microcontroller.
This driver only has text implementation.

It can be modified easily to operate on any PIC microcontrollers, and
also to draw sprites:

Kuribou Walking
Rockman
Random Sprites
Beating Heart

I am using LCD-00710 from sparkfun.
You will be able to use my code for any LCDs that use the
KS0108 Controller
Provided that input/output ports are modified slightly.

GET SOURCE CODE: CLICK HERE

Email me at joekwuen@gmail.com
if you have any questions
and also if you have no idea how to draw sprites on your LCD.

Well the following videos will show the processes I went through

Breathalyzer Extra

THE FINAL VERSION POSTING OF THIS PROJECT IS AVAILABLE

Apparently
the only way to calibrate these cheap sensors are by
...umm just trying them...
that's exactly what i did...
:D

And here are the results,
I am not sure yet how I should use this data
but one thing I am sure of is that higher the alcohol concentration,
more accurate the readings were
:D

I will be taking that into consideration when I will start programming PIC.

Logic Gate Clock #1

THIS IS AN OLD POST. THE FINAL UPDATE AVAILABLE HERE.

Started the design quite a while ago, but never had chance to actually begin building it...
until now
:D
So basic idea was to build a clock using only logic IC chips.
This project was inspired by IEEE winner - all transistor clock.

My design so far:
NOTE: Crystal at 32.768kHz, C2 is changed to 150pF, C1 is changed to 42nF, and Vref = 5.54V
I have begun troubleshooting the design
by using Quartus II simulation.
You can find all the simulation, design, and datasheets HERE.

Today
I have fine-tuned the circuitry to output roughly around 1Hz.
Because I do not own an oscilloscope,
I just used a stop watch to calibrate this...

I also started soldering the circuitry on a prototype board
:D

I will be able to finish this project
as soon as my online-ordered soldering pump arrives from China.
The following video shows counting seconds in BINARY CODED DECIMAL.

Bandai Space Battleship YAMATO

So today, I went to chill with Tohru and Ray in Richmond :D
we looked around hobby stores and i found thissss
well being an engineering nerd and all
I had to get this :D

Funny how I cant pull overnighter for school work,
but for this, I stayed up till now to finish :0|

anyways, the following pictures will explain all lol

The Beginning...
2. Easy Part Done :D
3. "uhhhh God" Stage... ohoh wait I have to do wahhhh with all those lil cannons!?
4. "My fingers are all sticky and nastyyy" Stage
5. yayyyyy :D
6. "oh wait... forgot to color it" stage ORZ
FINAL PRODUCT!
It was fun and cheap way to spend 6 hours :D
but note to self,
COLOR FIRST lol
There is no going bak cause I used super glue...
so that's my final product for this time lol
Its sitting firmly next to my Storm trooper rocking with headphones... lol

DealExtremeeeeeeeee Shopping

It's been a while since last time I blogged :(
I was just extremely busy with school project and etc...

anyways during that time, I finally received some new "toys" from dealextreme.
I won't say how much I payed for any of these since if u know dx, u know everything's cheap XD

first of all,
Android figure... sorry to say but its actually imitation of Dyzplastic's figurines...
still looks decent thou!

then I got a windproof jetlighter :D

yayyyy :D

lastly i got ecigs but... the quality is what's normally expected for "made in china" product :(
soooo i won't post any pictures lol

Now that I will have some free timeeee,,, time to work on my "hobby" projects !!!
